For the large majority of properties, a professional unarmed presence is exactly what’s needed — and it keeps the environment approachable for tenants, customers, and guests.
Armed security guards
Armed officers carry additional BSIS firearm certification and training, and are appropriate where the risk or the assets justify an elevated response: banks and cash handling, cannabis and jewelry, high-value retail, and sites with a history of serious incidents. Armed coverage carries more licensing and liability, which is reflected in the rate.
How to choose
Consider the honest risk level of the site, what you’re protecting, the message you want to send, and any client or insurer requirements. Many properties are well served by a full-time unarmed officer, with a dedicated patrol vehicle added at larger sites; others genuinely need an armed post.
